JOB DESCRIPTION - THRIFT SHOP ASSOCIATE

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION: The Violet Rose Gift & Thrift Shop is a program of the After Trauma Empowerment Network (ATEN) with all proceeds supporting the operation of ATEN. The store aims to provide a service to the community by providing access to good-quality items at affordable prices, and by providing individuals with the opportunity to gain employment skills through volunteering. Our volunteers come from a wide variety of backgrounds and circumstances, including retired persons, long-term volunteers, newcomers, students and volunteers on disability programs, and volunteers on work experience programs.

 PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES :
1.Accept and sort through all donations, separating good merchandise that can be made available for sale to customers. Place any unsuitable clothing in a re-donate bag to be re-donated.
2. Discard any/all cardboard and/or garbage in the respective dumpster behind the shop. Re-donateable items such as clothing, footwear and linens can be taken to local donation bins. Shope is to be in 'ready to open' condition before leaving for the day.
3.Clean up/wipe off any donations that would be suitable for sale in the shop.
4.Test any electrical or battery-operated donations before pricing and putting for sale on shelf.
5.Display and price all merchandise to be sold in the store.
6.Handle debit/cash sales at cash register.
7.Have the store open during the advertised hours.
8. Keep the store and surrounding area neat, clean and attractive including washroom (includes sweeping and mopping floor).
9.Provide accurate end-of-day sales report.
10.Model respectful interaction with staff, volunteers, customers and donors.
11.Keep up to date of new and innovate merchandising and display ideas.
12.Participate in staff meetings and trainings as needed.
13.Become knowledgeable of the ways in which working with people who have experienced trauma, DV and SA, impacts employees and proactively work to limit the effects of compassion fatigue by seeking supervision when common signs are present.
14.Engage in reflective supervision and actively examine how this work impacts you and how you impact the people that you work with as well as co-workers.
15.Abide by confidentiality standards required ATEN.
16.Follow opening and closing procedures as outlined in the shop handbook.
17.Other responsibilities as assigned by the Executive Director or Co-Director.
18.Be available to assist in other support services in the office and community as requested by
the Executive Director or Co-Director.
 
 
QUALIFICATIONS:
● Excited about working with a diverse group of people and providing volunteers with a meaningful
experience, including the opportunity to serve the community and learn new skills
● Highly organized
● Ability to work well and efficiently in a busy environment
● Ability to do physical work, including lifting/moving boxes, garbage and bags of donations
● Reliable and trustworthy
● Skilled in asking for and responding to feedback
● Background or knowledge in issues relevant to clients, customers, volunteers and donors, including: addictions, mental health, disabilities, ageing, working with other cultures is an asset.
● Experience working with people who face barriers is an asset.
